An extraordinary water play world has been created at Duisburg Zoo, which impressively demonstrates how playful experiences and ecological responsibility can go hand in hand. Together with the zoo team, Kletterparadies, as an experienced play equipment manufacturer, developed a facility that not only gives children the joy of playing, but also actively supports the natural water cycle.
At the heart of the planning was the idea of not simply allowing the water that the children play with to seep away. There are large underground cisterns beneath the site that collect and store the play water. This water is then used to irrigate the trees in the zoo – a well thought-out concept that combines play and sustainability in a unique way. This makes the water play area at Duisburg Zoo the first of its kind with an integrated cistern system – a showcase project for future-oriented play area equipment.
The play area itself invites children to discover, splash around and let off steam. Children can balance on a stable rotating beam with a holding rope, try their hand at climbing nets or swing on the swing seat. A slide provides additional fun, while the watercourses, sand cranes and vibrating sieves ensure lively, communal play. Every detail has been implemented with a great deal of love and precision craftsmanship – high-quality, durable and perfectly coordinated with the surroundings.
In addition to the technical implementation, the collaboration with Duisburg Zoo was a special experience. The joint planning was harmonious, characterized by openness, mutual trust and a clear goal: to create a sustainable play area that will be enjoyed by generations. Project manager of Duisburg Zoo Christian Schreiner comments:
