Familotel Kaiserhof, staircase extension, Berwang (AUT)

A high-quality indoor playroom in the stairwell that combines architecture, safety and imaginative wooden design to create a holistic play experience.

At the Familotel Kaiserhof in Berwang, the existing staircase was specifically developed further in the first construction phase – not as an additional room, but as an integrated experience area. The focus was on the precise integration of play value into the existing architecture.

Playful architecture in the stairwell

As an experienced playground manufacturer, we do not see indoor projects as isolated installations, but as a well thought-out addition to existing structures. The staircase retained its function and at the same time became a high-quality indoor play space that combines movement, orientation and imagination.

The tree house on the upper floor makes optimum use of the vertical room height. Full-surface safety nets are transparently integrated into the spatial structure and ensure maximum safety in the indoor playground without compromising the openness of the staircase.

Fairy world, marble games and interactive details

Four marble games – including a wall marble game and the Biazzo marble game – run across several floors and playfully link the floors together. This transforms a pure access zone into an interactive space for movement. Each floor is assigned its own animal; the design with beaver trunks picks up on the high-quality wood design and reinforces the thematic clarity. Signposts support intuitive orientation in the stairwell.

High-quality play space planning for lively use

From the detailed planning of the play area to the custom-made playground equipment and the final implementation, an indoor playground was created that respects the existing building fabric and extends its functionality. High-quality materials ensure longevity in hotel operations.

The result is not an additional space, but an intelligent further development of existing architecture – an example of how professional play space design creates new play values without having to reinvent structures.
