As a renowned play equipment manufacturer and specialist for individual playground planning and playground design, it was a special honor for us to become a part of this extraordinary place. With over 1.5 million visitors a year, Miniatur Wunderland is one of the best-known and most popular attractions in Europe – and it was here that we were able to create a unique indoor playground.
A project that is something very special, not only because of its location, but also because of the design challenge. The result is an imaginative play world that fits seamlessly into the overall concept of Miniatur Wunderland – rich in detail, interactive and with loving highlights that will make children’s hearts beat faster.
How do you create a play world that is right in the middle of Wunderland – and is itself a small wonder? The wish was clear: a high-quality, safe and exceptionally designed indoor play area that would both delight young explorers and fit in with the atmosphere of Miniatur Wunderland. The playground equipment had to be functional, well thought-out and, above all, suitable for children. Our mission as a playground equipment manufacturer was clear: a harmonious overall concept that combines adventure, movement and imagination.
In close cooperation with the Miniatur Wunderland team, we developed a playground design in which every play element is based on a story – a story of locomotives, secret mines and the magic of an old railroad station.
The heart of the set is the play train combination of locomotive, wagon and track. The red locomotive offers an imaginative driving experience with a crawl-through boiler, motorized play wheel, shutters, a bell, a wobbly seat and lovingly designed details such as a mouthpiece and control board. Two integrated electronic elements – sound and light – provide additional moments of surprise. The wagon with transparent base plate and integrated coins invites you to explore, while the lifelike carved track and traffic lights provide the perfect setting.
Right next to it, the mine with its net bridge and EPDM hill lures little adventurers into the depths. With an impressive slide landscape, net bridge, secret tunnel entrances, an “infinity mirror” and a hidden “rock crystal”, the classic indoor experience is raised to a new level. The “Glück auf” cladding on the slide, the dynamically designed climbs and decorative elements such as the pickaxe, goat and ibex tell stories of times gone by – and leave room for new stories. The atmosphere is enhanced by targeted lighting that sets the scene for highlights such as the crystal or the animal figures.
A special part of the facility is the cozy station concourse with loving details, where things are quieter – but no less exciting. Here, children (and parents) can relax, play or simply let their imaginations run wild. The furnishings with benches, tables, station clock, lanterns, a platform area and the iconic “Track 9 ¾” create the authentic feeling of a small, magical station in the middle of play.
Attention was paid to every detail during the implementation of this project – from the use of robust materials to the atmospheric lighting design. As a playground equipment manufacturer, we attach great importance to high-quality workmanship and safety, especially in indoor projects with high visitor numbers. The entire indoor playground was planned and manufactured with a particular focus on durability, ease of maintenance and creativity.
The playground equipment used is specially tailored to the target group: imaginative children between the ages of 3 and 10 who like to move, hide, discover and dream. Thanks to the well-thought-out playground equipment with a variety of play values such as climbing, sliding, balancing and role play, every visit is an experience – and one that will be remembered
For us as a company, this playground is a project close to our hearts.
