No ordinary outdoor playground was created for the Reetland am Meer vacation resort in Dranske, but a play world that blends in with the landscape. As a playground manufacturer and specialist in high-quality play area design, our aim was to develop an outdoor playground that blends harmoniously into the surroundings and feels like a natural part of the place. The aim was to create a play area that blends in naturally between thatched roofs and sand dunes.
At the heart of the play space planning was the idea of a maritime world of experience that allows movement, imagination and relaxation in equal measure. The focus was on a high-quality wooden design that is both robust and atmospheric. After all, good playground equipment can be durable without losing the charm of a harbor facility that has seen many little sailors.
Probably the most striking element of the project is the old lighthouse. A structure that looks as if it has already survived several storms. Inside, the path leads to the top – and then back down again at a pleasing speed via the integrated tube slide. The lighthouse is a lookout point, play object, marble run and adventure backdrop all in one. Children naturally see it as a command center for difficult coastal missions.
Another highlight is the large “Stormy Sea” climbing facility. This is all about movement, courage and skill. Different climbing routes, balancing elements and nets create a variety of challenges for different age groups. As a play space manufacturer, we attach particular importance to ensuring that exercise spaces not only look pretty, but also promote real activity.
The layout is complemented by small and large sand ships. These invite children to dig, load, play captain and occasionally trade in sand. It should not be underestimated how seriously children take their harbor logistics. Between shovels, sand and imaginative trade routes, the play situations that bring a high-quality outdoor playground to life are created.
The Seedorf playhouse with its balancing track also blends harmoniously into the overall picture. Small transitions, changing heights and different materials ensure that children can playfully expand their range of movement. In addition, a climbing wall with a climbing net and horizontal bar as well as numerous other balancing and climbing elements have been created to give the entire play area a varied structure.
A good playground is never just a collection of individual pieces of equipment. The interaction of the elements is crucial. That is why this project placed particular emphasis on the quality of the space. Seating options for young and old create places to watch, take a breather or for those conversations that start with “One more slide, then we’re really going”.
The ropeway is also particularly popular, with its fast-paced movement providing a wonderful contrast to the quieter play areas. The range is complemented by a marble run with various elements that promote fine motor skills, concentration and a love of experimentation. It is details such as these that make a high-quality play area design interesting in the long term.
As a playground manufacturer, we don’t see outdoor projects like this one solely as a functional task. It’s about creating places that make stories possible. A good outdoor playground can offer adventure without being loud. It can be of high quality without appearing stiff. And it can trust children to turn a lighthouse, a balancing course or a sand boat into much more than just playground equipment.
The outdoor playground in Reetland by the sea in Dranske is an exercise area that combines a coastal landscape, wooden design and imaginative play. A place for small expeditions, big slides and the firm belief that with enough imagination, you can of course conquer a stormy sea.
