The playground at the Schillerwiesen horticultural monument in Göttingen welcomes all children – with this goal in mind, as an experienced playground equipment manufacturer, we have realized a unique project that focuses on children, inclusion and closeness to nature. We look back on the completion of this special outdoor playground with great pleasure and a little pride. Thanks to well thought-out playground planning and high-quality playground equipment, a play world has been created here that enables children with and without disabilities to play together.
The design of the playground places particular emphasis on inclusive play options. A central component is the swing landscape, which consists of different types of swings. It enables children with different needs to play together. One inclusive swing was connected directly to a cast fall protection system to ensure barrier-free access.
Two climbing towers offer a wide range of play options: climbing, sliding, hiding, balancing, hanging, jumping, dangling and swinging – everyone gets their money’s worth here. Specially designed elements, such as a spacious ramp, provide barrier-free access to a play level where various play options are also accessible for wheelchair users, creating an inclusive play experience.
To make access easier for children with visual impairments, special orientation points have been integrated into the playground equipment. In future, signs with Braille at the entrances will make it easier for children to find their way around before entering the playground. High robinia trunks in contrasting colors mark path junctions and entrances so that the structure of the playground can be intuitively grasped.
Nature conservation also played a decisive role in the design of the playground. The old trees were preserved and sensitive crown areas were left untouched. In order to create an inclusive and covered seating area with a good view of the play area, a balanced solution was developed that only minimally affects the wild wooded areas.
This playground proves that well thought-out playground planning and high-quality playground equipment not only enable exciting play experiences, but also create real meeting places. Children with and without disabilities can laugh, romp and experience adventures together here.
